The following interview with Anthony Pateras took place on Little Collins Street in Melbourne in 2014. Intended for a radio documentary about the city’s experimental music scene, the Australian-born composer was interviewed by Rebekah Weikel while he was visiting from Berlin, where he was living at the time.
The documentary was being co-produced by Matthew O’Shannessy and Rebekah Weikel and several interviews were conducted with other composers and sound artists. This recording was found in 2021 in this form, cut and prepped for editing, and is included here with Anthony’s permission.
Anthony Pateras is a composer, pianist, and electroacoustic musician active since the late ’90s. Alongside writing concert works, he performs in improvised, electronic and experimental rock contexts. Pateras has been commissioned by INA-GRM, Radio France, Südwestrundfunk, ensemble]h[iatus, Muzzix and Kitchen Orchestra Stavanger, among many others. Major performances include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC & Toronto Symphony Orchestras, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Golden Fur & ICE. In 2021, his music was extensively featured at Festival Archipel (Geneva) & Klangspruen Festival (Schwaz).
