Doc 136: Stephanie LaCava

I found this paper bag in the tiny armoire by my bed the other day, nearly a year after I smuggled it back from Mexico City. Whatever was purchased—placed inside—is less important and ended in disappointment.

The archangel Raphael is known for healing, helping the broken to overcome addiction to then find love. He is also the protector of travelers and overseer of happy meetings. The fisherman has always been an important symbol for my family. In my novel Nymph, it is the fisherman that saves the life of the main character while she’s in utero.

Unanswered prayers can be misleading.

Sometimes it’s not the thing lost, but the story it arrived in.
